Sharon Warnock, 60
Reading, PA (formerly Scotch Plains, NJ) – Sharon Warnock, 60, loving partner, mother, sister, and friend to all, died suddenly Thursday, February 25, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Reading PA. Born in Kearny NJ, she grew up in the Vailsburg section of Newark and spent most of her adult life in Scotch Plains NJ before moving to Reading last year.
Sharon was a cherished partner of Marie Himmelberger and loving mom to John Putt and Steven Warnock, and her caring and giving presence will be surely missed. She also leaves behind loving siblings Rosemary Seery and her husband Jim, Eileen Woodworth, David and his wife Chris, Brian and his wife Doretta, and many treasured nieces and nephews. Sharon was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Marie Warnock, her sister Jean Marie, partner Pat Putt, and beloved son Chris Warnock.
Sharon, a lover of life, graduated from New Jersey State College with a Masters in Special Education, and had a devoted career as a special education teacher at A. Harry Moore School in Jersey City before retiring.
Sharon lived her life serving others, and her personal mission was to Special Needs Children. Sharon was proud to be actively involved with Special Olympics as both a coach and parent. She was co-founder of a Special Needs Boy Scout Troop, and served as a Scout Master in that organization assisting many young men, several of whom rose to the rank of Eagle Scout. Sharon co-founded a Dating Club dedicated to the social needs for this group of developing young people.
Following her teaching career, Sharon embarked on the next chapter of her life, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Drew University with a Masters Degree in Divinity. Living a life of experiences, travelling throughout the country and beyond its borders with Family and Friends, Sharon was honored to be a participant in the World Conference of Churches meeting held in Brazil. At her passing she was working to complete the process of full ordination with the United Church of Christ, having served as a Chaplain for Overlook Hospital in NJ and Reading Hospital in PA.
Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave, Fanwood, NJ, 07023 on Sunday from 12 – 3 with a service following at 3 P.M at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics of Berks County, PO Box 939, Reading PA 19603.
