Arthur A. Meyer Sr., 86

Scotch Plains – Arthur A. Meyer Sr., 86, passed away Monday (February 8, 2010) at JFK Hospital in Edison. He was a lifelong resident of Scotch Plains.

Arthur worked as foreman for the Scotch Plains Department of Public Works until his retirement. He proudly served in the Army during WWII and served as Deputy Chief of the Scotch Plains Volunteer Fire Department. Arthur was a member of the American Legion Post #209 in Scotch Plains. He loved playing golf, bowling, and riding his horse "Lucky" when he was a young man.

Surviving are his daughter, Ruth A. Bender of Canadensis, PA; his son, Arthur A. Meyer Jr. of Canadensis, PA; daughters, Elaine C. Barney of South Plainfield, Debbie L. Boyton of Matawan, and Mary Lou Choynake of Scotch Plains; his sister-in-law, Grace Arnold of Plainfield; 8 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Meyer was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy L. Meyer. He was also predeceased by his father, Charles H. Meyer Sr.; his mother, Madeline L. Meyer; his brothers, Charles Meyer Jr., Fred Meyer, and William Meyer; his sisters, Madeline Ryan, Jean Trower, Marie Bodkin, and Mae Meyer.

The funeral will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood on Saturday at 10A.M. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 325, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
