Herbert H. Blevins, 93
Basking Ridge – Herbert H. Blevins, 93, died Wednesday (January 27, 2010) at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge. Born in Kansas to Walter and Hazel Blevins, he lived in Fanwood before moving to Scotch Plains in 1955. He had resided at Fellowship Village since 2001. He also maintained a residence in Key Biscayne, FL for ten years.
Mr. Blevins graduated from Kansas State University. After graduation, he joined Lybrand, Ross Bros. and Montgomery before entering the US Air Force. He served in the Air Force from 1941 to 1946 rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Upon leaving the service, he was employed by Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway for 32 years, retiring in 1979 as Vice President of Management Information Systems.
He was a charter member of the Fanwood Lions Club and a longtime member of the Fanwood Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and trustee for the church. He also served as a trustee for Union County College and its foundation for twenty years and as a member, President, and Chairman of the Financial Executives Institute.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Neva Payne Blevins and his daughter, Dixie Lee Blevins. He is survived by his son Robert L. Blevins, D.M.D. and his wife, Susan of Exton, PA; his daughter, Patti Baird and her husband, Edward of Scotch Plains; three grandchildren, Scott Blevins, Rebecca Blevins Sellers, and Kristen Baird.
Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, on Saturday at 10 A.M. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
